Portsmouth Peace Treaty Day 2017

September 5, 2017

On September 5, 2017, Mayor Blalock joined citizens in Market Square to read the Governor’s proclamation of the Portsmouth Peace Treaty Day.

Every year on September 5th, the state of New Hampshire observes the 1905 Portsmouth Peace Treaty, which stands today as one of history's great peace negotiations.

It ended the Russo-Japanese War and marked the emergence of a new era of multi-track diplomacy. For Mayor Blalock, it is important to keep the memory alive of the City’s deep-rooted peacekeeping, and positive influences brought forth by the local citizenry and naval shipyard.
