The 14½-foot-tall monument “Vigilance” was unveiled Thursday night in front of more than 200 people at the Central Fire Station on Court Street. The art work depicts two firefighters standing on either side of an archway as orange water representing fire flows down steps between them. The fruit of years of fund raising, planning and the work of well-known Canaan artist Emile Birch was dedicated at a ceremony featuring members of the department both past and present.
