MEMORIAL DAY CLOSURES 2013


On Memorial Day (Monday, May 27) City offices, schools, the New Connie Bean Recreation Center, Indoor Pool and the Library are closed. The Library will also close Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. The Spinnaker Point Adult Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 27. There will be no collection of trash, yard waste or recyclables on May 27. The Monday curbside trashand recyclables collection will be combined with Tuesday pickup, including the downtown district pickup Tuesday evening. There will be no yard waste collection Tuesday, May 28.

 

MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS
On Friday, May 24 the Middle School Band will play at the Central Veterans Council's "Symbolic Burial at Sea" service at Prescott Park at 10 a.m. On Memorial Day, May 27, the Portsmouth High School Brass Ensemble will play at the Albacore Memorial Day Service at Albacore Park at 10 a.m. The Portsmouth Middle School Grade 7/8 Band and the PHS Clipper Band will march in the annual Memorial Day parade and perform at the South Cemetery ceremonies later in the day.

 

MEMORIAL DAY STREET CLOSURES
There will be rolling street closures Monday, May 27 as the Memorial Day parade passes. The parade is sponsored by the Central Veterans Council and begins at 1 p.m. at the corner of Junkins and Parrott Avenues and ends at the South Street Cemetery. The street closures for the parade route will be from Junkins Avenue to Pleasant Street, Pleasant Street through Market Square to Middle Street to Richards Avenue and then into the South Street Cemetery.
