Reference: Portsmouth Police Explorers win first place

The Portsmouth Police Department Explorer Post won first place at the annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Explorer Competition, held this past weekend at Mt. Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts. A total of sixteen teams competed from throughout New England.

Events included; physical agility, building search, search and control, unknown call, domestic, warrant service, a team response, crime scene, ‘shoot don't shoot’ scenario, motor vehicle stop, driving while intoxicated mock arrest, mountain bike, judgmental driving and hostage negotiations.

Cadet Amanda Patterson won 2nd for the physical agility, Cadet Alison Rahn placed 3rd for search and control, Cadets Richie Cady and Cam Holt-Corti won 1st place for warrant service and 2nd place in the ‘shoot/don’t shoot’ scenario, and Cadet Andrew Jones placed 2nd for mountain bike. The team won by having the most points overall. This is the first time that any team from out of state has won the Massachusetts competition.

The Explorers volunteer during police and community events, receive classroom and hands-on instruction from Portsmouth Police Officers, and participate in camping and outdoor team building trips. Detective Robert Munson, who serves as the School Resource Officer at Portsmouth High School, is the coordinator of the program.
