As part of the Portsmouth Police Department’s summer basketball league for youths in the seacoast community, the Friends Project league is run every Wednesday night at the South Mill courts. The Friends Project is comprised of youths in the seacoast with special needs.
Last week, the Friends Project team defeated the Portsmouth Fire Department team, 44 to 32. Tomorrow night, the Friends Project team will be taking on a team comprised of Portsmouth City Councilors and Portsmouth School Department personnel. The public is invited to attend this event.
The Portsmouth Police Department summer basketball league is run by Detectives Robert Munson and Aaron Goodwin, who are the school resource officers at Portsmouth High School and Middle School respectively. On Thursday nights the girl’s league plays at the New Heights Center, and on Friday nights the boy’s league plays at the high school.
Many of these teams are coached by members of the Portsmouth Police Department.
The Portsmouth Police Department summer basketball league is part of the department’s commitment to community based policing, and keeping youths safe and healthy.
