The Portsmouth Police Department has arrested the following individual as a result of an arrest warrant that was issued in March:
Nicholas J. Yastek
Date of birth 02/23/80
66 Powers Drive
Barrington, N.H.
He has been charged with the following two felonies:
Possession of a Narcotic Drug with Intent to Distribute,
Felon in Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm).
This arrest is the result of an investigation that began on March 7th, 2007, when members of the Portsmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to 55 Hanover Street for a drug overdose. The unconscious victim was identified as Nicholas Yastek, and he was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Inside the apartment, illicit drugs were seized and taken into evidence at the Portsmouth Police Department. A subsequent search warrant was obtained, and a total of 60 (sixty) grams of Crystal Methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $10,000 was seized. A handgun was also seized as evidence from Mr. Yastek’s property.
Mr. Yastek was subsequently released from Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and his whereabouts were unknown. Last week, Mr. Yastek was located in Maine where he was arrested for these charges, as well as numerous charges from other jurisdictions.
This morning, Mr. Yastek was arraigned in Portsmouth District Court. He is currently being held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections on $100,000 cash bail. His next court date in Portsmouth is a probable cause hearing scheduled for June 18th.
