Reference: Gates Street graffiti arrests

Date of Release: October 10th, 2006

The Portsmouth Police Department has made two arrests for multiple counts of Criminal Mischief for the July graffiti crimes that occurred in the Gates Street neighborhood of Portsmouth. Due to the ages of the suspects, their identities will not be released to the public.

Through an extensive investigation, it has been determined that two male juveniles are responsible for the crimes. Residents of the Gates Street area who were victimized have received a letter from the Portsmouth Police Department asking them to provide updated documentation of the damage done to their properties, so that restitution damages can be determined. We are asking victims to either deliver or send their damage estimates and/or bills to Sgt. Michael Schwartz at the Portsmouth Police Department, so that reimbursement can occur as quickly and accurately as possible.

The Portsmouth Police Department remains committed to keeping Portsmouth a safe community for its citizens to live and work in. Anyone with further information about this crime is asked to call the lead investigator, Detective Robert Munson at 436-2511, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 431-1199 or 207-439-1199.
