News Releases

Reference: Intensive DUI Enforcement
Date of Release: November 20, 2006
In a joint effort to deter the incidence of drunk driving offenses in the Seacoast over the holidays, the Portsmouth Police Department and New Hampshire State Police -Troop A announce that they will join forces in an intensified effort to apprehend DUI violators traveling our roadways.
Portsmouth Police Chief Michael Magnant and NHSP Troop Commander Lieutenant Robert Quinn, in a cooperative effort, will allocate additional “DUI Hunter” patrols throughout this holiday season to Portsmouth streets and highways.
To that point, using a combination of resources from the Portsmouth Police Department and NHSP Troop A, on November 22, 2006, twelve additional officers and troopers will be deployed on the streets and highways of Portsmouth, NH with the primary mission of apprehending drunk drivers.
Statistics show that drunk driving is the cause of an alarming number of serious injury and fatal accidents in our State. It is our goal to impress upon potential violators the seriousness of this offense and its potential consequences. We implore those who plan to drink while celebrating the holidays to do so responsibly. Please utilize the services of a cab, limo or plan ahead to have a designated driver. If you do drive drunk, know that there will be troopers and officers looking for you and expect to be arrested.
Chief Magnant and LT Quinn are dedicated to this cause and will make every effort to keep the roadways safe during this holiday season by apprehending those operators who make the wrong choice and drive drunk.
Please drink responsibly and allow everyone to enjoy a safe and happy holiday season.
For questions/comments regarding increased DUI patrols for the holidays please contact LT Fred Hoysradt of the Portsmouth Police Department @ 603-610-7628 and/or LT Robert Quinn of NH State Police Troop A @ 603-679-3333.
