UPDATE: Work at the Sagamore Creek Bridge Replacement Project will begin at 6:00 AM on Thursday, December 19th, 2013. This is a one-time event in order to remove the center span of the bridge. Work may continue beyond normal work hours (6:00 PM) in order to complete the task in one day.
The Sagamore Bridge closed to traffic on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. The bridge will reopen by Monday, December 1, 2014. Roadway and approach work will be completed no later than June 1, 2015. Project Description: The Sagamore Bridge is slated for replacement starting this fall. The new bridge will be wider allowing for easier vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle use going back and forth from Portsmouth and points in Rye and New Castle. The old bridge will be taken out of service in early fall of 2013 and be opened approximately 15 months later. Posted detours will take travelers around the closed bridge.
