Senior Activity Center

The Senior Activity Center is located at Community Campus, 100 Campus Drive in the former Mark Wentworth Senior Enrichment Center.
The Senior Services office is also located in the Senior Activity Center.
Starting July 7 the Center will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm.

  • Participants are asked to sign in upon arrival
  • Free wifi, coffee & tea available
  • Puzzles, magazines, newspaper, crossword puzzles, and cable TV available
  • Green Bean Café in building for the purchase of food and drinks
  • Parking lots are in the front and rear of the building
  • Outdoor seating on patio
  • Cooling Station during summer months as needed--cold water and snacks available

Save the date:

  • CarFit educational program for older drivers and their vehicles – Thurs, July 17, 9am-noon. Must sign up ahead of time.
  • Foot Care Clinic – Tues, July 29 at 10:00am. Diabetic shoe demo, foot wellness, toenail cutting, etc.
  • Passport Information Day – Tues, Aug 12 from 10:00am-1:00pm. Taking a cruise, visiting Canada or need your passport renewed? Since 9/11 getting a passport or renewing is more complicated. Come learn more and bring your documentation to make sure it meets with the current guidelines.

 

Blue Ribbon Senior Committee Report

In July of 2013, Mayor Eric Spear created a Blue Ribbon Senior Committee with the charge to advise the City Council on developing a Senior Center. The Senior Committee met eight times from August through December 2013 and developed a report and recommendations for the City Council for further review. Learn more about the "So Much for Seniors!" TV show on PPMTV- Channel 98 in Portsmouth.

A fun and educational television show for seniors by seniors on Portsmouth's local cable channel. With a great line up of guests you're bound to learn something new.
Volunteers are being recruited to help with the show. Call or email the Senior Services Office for an application 603-610-4433 or bchute@cityofportsmouth.com.

Gundalow Trip for Seniors
Friday, August 8 from 10:00am-12:30pm
$25 per person
The Gundalow's crew and onboard educators will share their knowledge of the Piscataqua maritime regions as well as cultural and natural history of the area. Or just relax and take in the sights. RSVP is required by calling the Senior Activity Center at 603-610-4433 or bchute@cityofportsmouth.com.

Vial of Life Program
The Portsmouth Police Department is pleased to offer, free of charge, the Vial of Life kit. It is designed to speak for you when you can't speak for yourself. The vial contains important medical information that can assist emergency personnel in administering the proper medical treatment. 4 easy steps; 1) fill out the form, 2) put the form in the special baggie, 3) hang the baggie on your fridge, and 4) hang the Vial of Life decal on front door.

Senior Supper Club at Living Innovations
All seniors are welcome to join the fun and enjoy a scrumptious home cooked dinner. This season we welcome a new Chef Tony to the kitchen to delight us with his traditional favorites.
Dinner takes place and are hosted by Living Innovations at 1950 Lafayette Rd.
First and Third Tuesdays of the month from May-December.

CarFit on Thursday, July 17
CarFit is a free, interactive and educational program designed to improve older driver safety. Trained volunteers provide information to unsure the safest "fit" for older drivers in the vehicles. Volunteers will give participants useful advice on making their car fit them while driving. For example helping adjust seats, mirrors, steering wheel, and seatbelt. Drivers may think that they are fitted well for their car, but the volunteers can help make simple adjustments that create a safer more secure driving experience. Hosted by Northeast Rehab and sponsored by AAA and AARP.
