About the PE & Health Team

Portsmouth High School currently staffs two full-time physical education teachers and two full-time physical education and health education teachers. Our teachers are state certified in the topics they teach and maintain advanced degrees. PHS high school physical education and health teachers are diversified with backgrounds in multiple areas which allow them to teach many elective and required courses with confidence and creativity.  All of our physical education teachers are highly qualified in the courses they teach.

About Our Courses

PHS Students’ Physical Education Graduation Requirement is to earn 1 credit by:

  • Taking either Intro to Physical Education (.5 credit) OR Intro to Adventure (.5 credit) AND then an elective class*

OR

  • Taking both Intro classes

*Students must pass a required Intro Physical Education Course (listed above) before the end of 10th grade, and can then select any Physical Education elective listed below:

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION II   Grades 10, 11, 12

Course No. 786, 1/4 Year .5 Cr

Prerequisite: .5 credit from an Intro Course.

 

STRENGTH TRAINING   Grades 10, 11, 12

Course No. 787, 1/4 Year .5 Cr

Prerequisite: .5 credit from an Intro Course.

 

STRENGTH TRAINING II   Grades 10, 11, 12

Course No. 788, 1/4 Year .5 Cr

Prerequisite: Successful Completion of Strength Training

(#787) with a "B" or better.

 

PROJECT ADVENTURE   Grades 11, 12

Course No. 795, 1/4 Year .5 Cr

Prerequisite: .50 credit from an Intro Course.

 

YOGA I Grades 10, 11, 12

Course No. 7980, 1/4 Year .5 Cr

Prerequisite: .50 credit from an Intro Course.

 

YOGA II Grades 10, 11, 12

Course No. 7983, 1/4 Year .5 Cr

Prerequisite: Passing grade in YOGA I

 

LIFEGUARD TRAINING (Must be 15 years or older)

Course No. 8023, 1/4 Year .5 Cr

Prerequisite: .5 credit from an Intro Course AND must pass the Lifeguard Training Swim Test
