Mayor Becksted announces McIntyre Subcommittee (Feb 18)

February 27, 2020

At the regular City Council meeting of February 18, 2020, Mayor Rick Becksted announced that, following discussions by members of the City Council with the City’s McIntyre Federal Building development partner Redgate/Kane, the City has launched a new initiative to bring about construction of the project.

The City Council has endorsed the creation of a four-member subcommittee to initiate immediate discussions with Redgate/Kane. The members of the committee are City Councilors Deaglan McEachern, John Tabor, Peter Whelan and Paige Trace.

In making the announcement, Mayor Becksted noted that some members of the community had come to believe that the City and Redgate/Kane were not working together. “We had a good talk on how we’re going to move forward collaboratively,” Mayor Becksted said about the conversation with members of the City Council and members of the Redgate/Kane development team.

“It is important for the people of the City to know,” continued the Mayor, “That the City Council desires to work constructively and cooperatively with its partners on the Redgate/Kane development team to bring about the completion of a McIntyre Project in a way that fulfills the needs of both sides and is a future source of pride for the entire City.”

The Mayor said he expects the subcommittee of Councilors to meet with the Redgate/Kane team “In a matter of days.”
