CDBG Public Facility and Accessibility Improvement Grants Available
The Portsmouth Community Development Department is now accepting applications for the City FY 2025 Public Facility and Accessibility Improvement Grant program. The funding for this program is provided by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is contingent on the City receiving its FY 2025 (HUD FY 2024) grant award from HUD. This is a competitive process that makes grants ranging from minimum $75,000 up to maximum $175,000 available to non-profit agencies whose facilities primarily serve Portsmouth individuals and families who earn very low, low or moderate incomes and/or whose facilities that serve the public and require the removal of architectural barriers to meet ADA accessibility compliance. Funds may be used for facility upgrade and accessibility project expenses during the program year beginning July 1, 2024 and ending June 30, 2025. Highest priority will be given to CDBG-eligible projects that are shovel-ready and with a completion date by or before December 30, 2024.
Note that funds are limited and interested agencies are encouraged to apply early.
Eligible agencies must have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and at least over 51% of those served by the facility improvement—if not an accessibility improvement—must earn very low, low or moderate incomes as defined by HUD. Eligible grant expenses include the soft costs, labor, and materials required for the design and execution of facility improvements. The deadline for application submissions to the City of Portsmouth Community Development Department is 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. In order to be considered for funding, applications must be received by that date and time.
