Portsmouth Inspections Department Offers Free Training on Firestop Concepts, Codes & Systems

The City of Portsmouth Inspections Department is hosting a free training session on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 on Firestopping Concepts, Codes & Systems in building construction. Intended for contractors, developers, code officials and residents the session takes place in City Hall Council Chambers and via Zoom from 9 am to 12 noon (check-in starts at 8 am). Advanced registration is required.

This Firestopping Concepts, Codes & Systems training is presented by Wayne Barrow, a firestop contractor for 16 years and the founder and president of VeriCon. Barrow is author of three books on firestop inspection and quality control and has trained more than 8000 building officials, architects, contractors and facilities personnel.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Firestop systems vs firestop materials
  • Single installer or subcontractor self-install
  • Inspections and codes
  • Passive Fire Protection effectiveness
  • Firestopping frequently asked questions


The training is presented in partnership with the New Hampshire Seacoast Code Officials Association (NHSCOA). Participants are eligible for CEU's.
