What We Do
Inspection Department Responsibilities
The Building Inspection Department is responsible for the review and approval of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical plans and specifications.
Applications for building permits, change-in-land-use permits, fire sprinkler permits and fire alarm permits are issued though the Inspection Office.
All municipal land use boards are administered through the Inspection and Planning Departments. Depending on the complexity of a project, electric, plumbing and mechanical permits are issued directly to the licensed contractor or homeowner who is doing the work.
Scheduling An Appointment
The inspectors maintain daily office hours between 8 AM to 10 AM, afternoon appointments by schedule (Monday - Thursday). Please note we will be closing at 1 pm on Fridays. During that time they conduct plan review; issue electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits; consult with clients and answer construction code questions. Click here for more information.
NOTICE:
All requests to occupy city sidewalks or other public ways for the purposes of repairing buildings or in the process of permitted construction activity, must first apply for said occupation through the City's Inspection Department. No longer is this process administered by the Public Works Department. Please go to ViewPoint Cloud to apply for a Street Encumbrance Permit
