Public Meeting on October 2nd to review new connector road between Lang Road and Longmeadow Road

The intersection of US Route 1 (Lafayette Road) and Lang Road has been a safety concern for the City of Portsmouth, the Town of Rye and the State of New Hampshire for some time. Given that Lang Road is a City road and US Route 1 is a State road, both the City and NHDOT worked together on a Road Safety Audit of the intersection to analyze hazards and potential improvements. The Audit identified a preferred option of a connector roadway between Longmeadow Road and Lang Road in order to alleviate the Lang Road intersection safety issues. Using this audit, the City and State were able to secure Federal Funding for a large portion of this project.

The Public Works Department will be hosting a public informational meeting on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall’s Conference Room A.

At this meeting, the public will be apprised of plans to:

• Construct a connector road between Longmeadow Road and Lang Road behind the Service Credit Union building, so that traffic coming to and from Rye via Ocean Road can safely cross Route 1 at the US Route 1/Ocean Road/Longmeadow Road traffic signal.
• Construct a traffic island to prohibit left turns from Lang Road onto US 1 South. Right turns onto US 1 North toward downtown Portsmouth will still be allowed, as will left turns from Route 1 onto Lang Road.
