Bicycle amenities to be removed for the winter season
November 12, 2018
Beginning the week of November 12th, crews will begin removing the City’s bicycle corrals, Zagster bike share stations, and most of the white reflective plastic delineators along the Middle Street / Lafayette Road new bicycle lanes to avoid conflicts with snow clearing operations during the winter season. All items will be removed before Thanksgiving.
During the warmer seasons, the City has two downtown corrals (one located near the corner of Market and Hanover Streets and another near the corner of Daniel and Penhallow Streets) and seven Zagster bike stations, located at the Memorial Bridge Parking Lot, Bridge Street Parking Lot, Portwalk Place, City Hall, the corner of Summer Street and State Street, on Parrott Avenue at the intersection with Junkins Avenue, and in Market Square behind the North Church. Interested bicyclists of all ages were also able to experience protected and buffered bike lanes along the Middle Street and Lafayette Road corridor, a new feature implemented this year.
“Hibernating” the City’s corrals, bikes and stations over the winter will also enable all items to receive maintenance. The City is targeting early May 2019 to reinstall these items. Bike lane delineator locations may be modified in the Spring 2019 season, and could potentially be reinstalled at a sooner date depending on weather conditions.
