Farmers' Market and Local Foods
Portsmouth Farmers' Market opens on Saturday, May 4 for the 2024 season. It is held in the upper parking lot of the Municipal Complex located at 1 Junkins Avenue, between 8AM - 12PM every Saturday through October 26. Parking is available in the lower lot of City Hall.
The Health Department wants to continue to promote the purchase of local foods and support local farmers and economies. Learn more about the market vendors on the Seacoast Eat Local website by clicking the logo below.
Many farms also have Farm Stores where you can access their products as well as other local goods.
Additionally, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (a.k.a. a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season. Seacoast Harvest (Local Food Guide)
Seacoast Harvest is a free guide to the farms, fisheries, farmers’ markets, CSAs, and farm stands of Rockingham, Strafford, and York Counties of New Hampshire and Maine. Produced annually by Seacoast Eat Local, Seacoast Harvest is made possible through the generous work of many volunteers and support from their sponsors.
Seacoast Eat Local cultivates a thriving food economy by building bridges between regional food producers and consumers. Their vision is that the Seacoast Region will have a vibrant, diverse community of successful farms and food producers and ever-expanding access for consumers. In dedication to this mission, they operate four primary programs: Seacoast Harvest, Farmers’ Markets, SNAP/EBT acceptance and incentives services, and the Seacoast Area Mobile Market (SAMM). They are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and any donation made to support their work is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The UNH Cooperative Extension has teamed up with the NH Department of Agriculture to gather and display farm listings from across the state in an interactive online map, making it easy for farmers to directly connect with consumers. The map lists information about curbside pick-ups and deliveries for healthy food essentials like meat, produce and dairy, as well as other offerings like cut flowers, hay, compost, seedlings, soap, candles and more.
