Maplewood Avenue Paving June 17 & 18

The Department of Public Works announces that the Contractor intends to complete the final paving of Maplewood Avenue, from the intersection with Woodbury Avenue, to Edmond Avenue on June 17 & 18. Work will proceed, weather permitting.
The existing detour will be in place during working hours, along Maplewood Avenue between Edmond Avenue and Woodbury Avenue while paving is underway. Residents, deliveries, school buses, emergency vehicles, etc. will be allowed to access the area, but through traffic will not be permitted. At the end of the day Maplewood Avenue will be reopened to traffic during non-working hours.
Construction to be completed during Summer 2020 as part of the Maplewood Avenue Project in the Cutts/Central/Leslie Dr. areas includes water line replacement, sewer repairs/replacement, drainage improvements, roadway reconstruction, curbing, and sidewalk replacement. The Maplewood Avenue, Fairview Drive and Woodbury Avenue phase of the project will be completed this summer.

Background: This project includes a comprehensive full road reconstruction and underground utility replacement in Maplewood Avenue from Woodbury Avenue to the Maplewood Avenue Bridge over the Route 1 bypass. The utility component includes replacement of water and sewer and drain improvements as needed throughout the project area. The streetscape design on Maplewood incorporates the use of "complete street" components to improve safe access for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities. The Cutts Street/Central Avenue, and Leslie Drive, and Fairview Drive neighborhoods are included in the design, including utility and roadway improvements. The City received bids in March 2018 and awarded the construction contract to Sargent Corporation of Stillwater, ME. Sargent began construction the week of July 9, 2018.
