Computer Science Programming
About the Program
The two-year Computer Science CTE pathway is comprised of four semester-long courses: Introduction to Object Oriented Programming (OOP), Introduction to Programming with Python, Web Development I, and Java Programming. These are the same four courses found at Great Bay Community College (GBCC) which begins their Computer Science Programming program. Through the CCSNH Early College program, the Portsmouth CTE has partnered with GBCC to bring these four college-level classes to Portsmouth High students where they can earn 3 credits per class. Early College courses in the sciences have been free for several years through a grant from the NH Governor. These courses are taught with self-placed learning plans which have all the resources and information students need for each unit of study. While all the course curriculum learning plan indexes are publicly visible on the Internet, the majority of learning plans are restricted to sau52.org accounts only. In addition to the four Early College courses there is a one-quarter-long Introduction to Computer Science course which covers the fundamentals of Computer Science. This Google Doc has more information about the CTE Computer Science program at Portsmouth.
