Planning Board Recommends Off-Street Parking Amendments to Council
September 29, 2017
On September 21, 2017, the Planning Board voted to recommend that the City Council adopt amendments to Articles 8, 11 and 15 regarding off-street parking regulations.
Based on best management practices for off-street parking requirements for urban and suburban neighborhoods like Portsmouth’s, the proposed amendments are consistent with recommendations included in the recently-adopted Master Plan to support the goal of managing parking supply to serve development needs without compromising community character. These amendments also support the City Council’s Housing Policy adopted in 2016, to review parking requirements and revise, as appropriate, to reduce housing development costs and proactively seek parking infrastructure solutions and shared parking arrangements.
