ALERT: Chapel Street CLOSED October 1 from 7 am to 12 noon

Chapel Street between Daniel and Bow Streets will be closed from 7 am to 12 noon on Tuesday, October 1 to perform work on the road surface in front of St. John's Church. Traffic will be rerouted around the area and will be blocked from entering Bow from Market Street. The right turn from Penhallow to Bow will also be blocked.

Public Works to Host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on October 5, 2019

PORTSMOUTH, NH - The Portsmouth Department of Public Works will hold its biannual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, October 5th, at the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road. Residents of Portsmouth, Greenland and Newington are encouraged to bring household chemicals for safe disposal between 8:00 a.m. and noon. Proof of residency is required.

Schools Open August 26th -- Drivers Urged to Use Caution at School Crossings

Portsmouth, N.H.— With a new school year starting Monday, August 26th, City Officials are reminding motorists to be alert and to watch for crossing guards at key locations around the city. Crossing guards with vests and signs assist students and their guardians who are walking and biking to school on busy City streets.  Drivers are urged to use caution near school neighborhoods, plan routes away from heavy school traffic if travel is time-sensitive, and to obey posted school speed limits and crossing guard signals.
