Paving Operations This Week: June 25, 2018

With many active paving projects this summer, Public Works will continue to issue periodic updates on the latest paving activities for the community to be aware of. This week, weather permitting, people can anticipate:

Public Information Meeting for Maplewood Avenue and Adjacent Areas Project Thursday, June 21st

June 21, 2018

The City of Portsmouth has a utility and roadway reconstruction project that includes the replacement of water mains, improvements to the sewer and drainage system, roadway reconstruction, bike lanes, sidewalks, and curbing for a section of Maplewood Avenue. The City received bids in March and has awarded the construction contract to Sargent Corporation of Stillwater, ME. Sargent is scheduled to begin construction the week of July 9th. The project is anticipated to require two construction seasons to complete.

Inspection of Peirce Island Road Bridge Occurring Tuesday, June 19th

The Department of Public Works has announced that a routine inspection of the existing Peirce Island Road Bridge will be conducted on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. This is a planned, non-emergency inspection and will involve a visual inspection of components of the bridge including the base, deck, railing system and above-water portions of the abutments and piers.

Public Meeting for Corporate Drive and Goosebay Drive Sewer Improvement Project Thursday, June 14th

June 14, 2018

The City of Portsmouth has a sewer improvement project that will consist of the replacement of existing sewer pipes in Goosebay Drive and also in Corporate Drive from Rye Street to Goosebay Drive. The City received bids in March and has awarded the construction contract to Sargent Corporation of Stillwater, ME. Sargent Corporation will begin construction on the sewer improvements later in the month of June.

Paving and Closure on Islington Street Occurring June 11th; Additional Paving Operations Announced

Throughout the day on Monday, June 11th, crews will be paving Islington Street spanning Route 33 (the Plains ballfield) and the Route 1 Bypass. These operations will result in the closure of that stretch of road from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and traffic detours; drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes.

Additionally, final paving operations are scheduled to occur on Thursday, June 14th on the Brewster and McDonough Streets’ area, weather permitting.

Chief Merner will be invoking his ‘Emergency Powers” and orders that NO Parking will be permitted on the following Portsmouth streets on Saturday, June 9th, due to the Annual Market Square Day and Market Square Day Road Race.

Portsmouth Water Division Releases 2017 Annual Drinking Water Quality Reports

Each year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires community water systems to deliver a Consumer Confidence Report – also known as an Annual Drinking Water Quality Report – to their customers. These reports, which are mailed out to water customers by July 1st, provide information about their drinking water quality from the previous year of sampling including a summary of detected contaminants, compliance, and educational information.

Andrew Jarvis Drive and Lafayette Road Intersection Improvement Project to be discussed Tuesday, June 5

Public Works staff will be holding a preconstruction meeting next Tuesday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Works Facility on 680 Peverly Hill Road. The meeting will provide the public with the latest information on the improvement project for the intersection of Andrew Jarvis Drive and Lafayette Road. The project includes widening the intersection to provide a right-turn lane on Lafayette Road and two exiting lanes on Andrew Jarvis Drive. A fully actuated traffic signal will also be installed at the intersection.

Paving Operations in Tucker’s Cove, Regina and Grafton Drives Begin

May 21, 2018

Paving operations began on Monday, May 21st within Tucker’s Cove (Odiorne Point and Gosport Roads), Regina Drive, and Grafton Drive. This week’s work includes milling and other preparation work ahead of the actual paving operations. This paving project will take about two months to complete.
