DPW Hosts Banfield Road Project Preconstruction Meeting Sep 2
August 28, 2020
The City of Portsmouth Public Works Department is hosting a public information meeting via Zoom to give neighbors an opportunity to understand the project planned for Banfield Road. The meeting is Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30 pm. To participate by Zoom, advance registration is required. For registration information, click here.
The project construction contract was awarded to John H. Lyman & Sons, Inc. of Gilford, NH. Construction is anticipated to begin in early September and continue until winter weather prevents further work. The balance of the work will be completed in the spring of 2021.
Work includes the following:
- Roadway widening
- Replacement of six (6) culverts (Base Bid)
- Installation of a closed drainage system for future curbing and sidewalk installation
- Installation of guardrail adjacent to wetland areas
- Roadway paving from Ocean Road to Heritage Drive*
- Ancillary tasks
*Paving between Heritage Drive and Peverly Hill Drive will take place as part of a separate project this fall.
This work is critical for public safety. It will address sections of Banfield Road that are very narrow and adjacent to open water. Widening the roadway will improve safety for pedestrians and allow for the installation of guardrail. This work was recommended by the Banfield Master Plan process, which was completed by the City in 2016 and incorporated comments received from two public input meetings.
The meeting will introduce the contractor and give residents an opportunity to ask questions of City staff and the contractor. The discussion is intended to help staff understand and address any specific concerns residents may have and minimize project impacts.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may contact the City project manager, Ryan Flynn, to set up an appointment to discuss the project.
