DPW to restock compost bins, reminds public of other composting support
September 8, 2017
*UPDATE - Public Works is currently out of our supply of free backyard compost bins, and will update the community if we get a new supply.
Throughout the summer, Public Works has offered backyard compost bins – a $100 retail value – free to residents. Public Works has been pleased to see that the community has taken advantage of this offer and increased their composting efforts – so much so that they are currently out of bins! Public Works will announce when they have more; in the meantime, email jalevenson@cityofportsmouth.com to be placed on a list to be contacted once the bins are restocked.
The City is also still providing a $10 per month subsidy to customers who use private compost curbside pick-up services. Those who use private food waste haulers for curbside service will see their subsidy reflected in their monthly bills from the hauler. Residents can also drop off their food waste at the Recycling Center, located behind the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road.
