Portion of Lafayette Road closed on Monday, August 13
August 13, 2018
As part of the City’s Lafayette Road and Andrew Jarvis Drive intersection improvement project, extensive utility work resulting in traffic delays will occur Thursday, August 9th through Monday, August 13th; this will include a complete road closure of Lafayette Road, between Greenleaf Avenue and the Route 1 bypass, on Monday, August 13th from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Eversource and other utility companies will be transferring wires from existing poles on one side of Lafayette, to new poles on the other side of Lafayette. Therefore, traffic on Thursday and Friday of that week will be reduced to one lane, with alternating flows controlled by flaggers at each end.
On Monday, Lafayette Road will be closed to all through traffic as the live wires are transferred, with a detour in place using Greenleaf Avenue and the Route 1 Bypass. Only local traffic to residences and businesses will be allowed in to the work zone. Flaggers will be stationed at each end of the road closure, with a police officer at the intersection of Route 1 Bypass and Greenleaf Avenue.
Monday’s work and road closure may carry into Tuesday, August 14th depending on weather conditions. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this span of work if possible.
