Public Works Announces Start of Crack Sealing Operations
October 6, 2017
On Wednesday, October 11th, weather permitting, pavement crack sealing operations are scheduled to begin in Portsmouth. The following roads and neighborhoods have been selected for treatment, and will be completed as time and budget allows:
- Maple Haven Neighborhood
- Market Street (from Albacore Way to Interstate 95)
- South Street (from Lafayette Road to Junkins Avenue)
- Jones Avenue
- Elwyn Park Neighborhood
*Additional roads may be added if schedule and budget allow.
Crack sealing is a proven, cost-effective form of preventative maintenance that significantly increases the lifespan of paved roads.
The operation shall consist of a crew of about six workers cleaning, routing, and applying sealant to pavement cracks. Nicom Coating Corperation of Berlin, Vermont has been awarded the contract for this work. A City inspector shall be present as needed.
This operation will limit traffic in the immediate area to an alternating, one-lane pattern. Flaggers and/or uniformed officers shall be present on either end of the operation to direct traffic. Users of these roads should expect minor delays during operations. If necessary, this work may take place at night in addition to normal working hours.
This work is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve and maintain its roads. For more information on this project you can contact Ryan Flynn E.I.T., Construction Project Coordinator, at 603-766-1413.
