Stark Street Bridge reopening October 29th; Woodbury Avenue Bridge closure to follow

October 29, 2018

The Stark Street Bridge, having been closed since January this year, is currently scheduled to be reopened by the Department of Transportation (DOT) on Monday, October 29th, weather permitting. Following the reopening of this bridge, the DOT will be closing the Woodbury Avenue Bridge that travels over the Route 1 bypass. This plan for Woodbury Avenue is also weather permitting, with the closing and demolition of the bridge (during which the bypass will be closed) currently scheduled for November 10th.

The New Franklin School will have a new traffic pattern in place as soon as the Stark Street Bridge reopens. The Stark Street Bridge will be open to two-way traffic during the year-long construction of the Woodbury Ave Bridge, and a gate will be installed to prevent cut-through traffic on the school property from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays when school is in session.

The DOT will be posting message boards on Woodbury Avenue in advance of the bridge closure to inform motorists of the upcoming plans. When closed, the official detour route for outbound traffic will be to use Cottage Street, to the Bypass, to the Traffic Circle, to Rockingham Ave, to Woodbury Avenue. Inbound traffic will be detoured down the southbound ramp, into the Traffic Circle and back up the northbound ramp to Woodbury Avenue. The DOT will also be issuing press releases on the closure and alternate routes before they occur.
