Work to start on Walker Bungalow Road and Sudbury Street on Monday, September 18th

On Monday, September 18th, work will begin on both Walker Bungalow Road and Sudbury Street.

On Walker Bungalow Road, the City’s contractor, John H. Lyman and Sons, will be constructing a water main replacement in the area just north of Shaw Road where utility crews stopped work last fall. The project proposes to install about 280’ of new water pipe in the area – spanning from 137 to 189 Walker Bungalow – in order to eliminate this final section of old water main.

Due to the width of the roadway, the road will be blocked off in the water main construction area to all vehicles except for the residents in the construction zone and for emergency access. Shaw Road and the balance of Walker Bungalow will remain open during this process.

This water work should take about three weeks to be complete, followed by a pavement overlay of the road which should take place sometime in the last two weeks of October.

On Sudbury Street, Unitil will be moving the gas main from its current location to underneath the sidewalk on the north side of the road (North Mill Pond) in order to facilitate the construction of the other utilities. The scope of this work is being included to the ongoing Brewster Street and Langdon Street reconstruction project.

The City will be replacing the water, sewer and drainage pipes under the street. The roadway and sidewalks in this area will also be reconstructed immediately following the utility work; the new sidewalk material will be concrete, but the street and sidewalk widths are not expected to vary from their current widths.

Parking will not be allowed in the active portions of this project area. The City will post signage prior to any work starting in the area. Because the street is so narrow, vehicle traffic through the active construction area will not be allowed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. For that reason, the City requests drivers to plan accordingly and move their cars out of that work area by 7:00 a.m. each morning. This area will be open to all traffic and parking during non-working hours.
