What Does A School Counselor Do?
- Individual Counseling ~Some examples would be: peer relations, family change, grief, anxiety, conflict, and school performance
- Group Counseling
- Teacher Training and Consultation
- Parent Consultation
- Link families with community resources and referrals
- Crisis Intervention/Counseling
- Facilitate students who need a break/time out
- Participate on the Special Education Placement Team
- Coordinate 504 plans
- Develop and implement behavior plans
- Support and implement Open Circle in classrooms
- Recess supervision
- Work collaboratively with community resources such as Seacoast Mental Health Center, Big Brother/Big Sister Program, DCYF, health care providers, the court, lawyers, GALS, CASA Workers, the housing authority, police department, etc.
- Provide written reports as necessary
- Develop Individual Education Plans and goals
- Coordinate the School Store
- Serve on various school-wide committees
