Portsmouth Historic Plaque Program Research Session, Sunday Dec 10

The Portsmouth Athenaeum, Portsmouth NH 400, the Friends of the South End and the Citywide Neighborhood Committee have been collaborating on a Historic House Plaque Program.

The owners of any house, no matter the age or location in Portsmouth, can research the origins of their home and complete the application for approval to install a plaque that has been pre-approved by the City’s Historic District Commission.

Please join us at the Library on Sunday, December 10th at 5:30-7:30 for plaque program information and an after-hours research session! Members of the Portsmouth Historic House Sign Committee, museum curator and consultant John Mayer, Athenaeum Proprietor Peggy Hodges, who is providing oversight for the plaque research of each home, Robin Silva, Athenaeum Librarian, and Portsmouth Public library staff will all be on hand to consult, guide, and encourage all in their research!

Talia Sperduto of the Portsmouth Historic Sign Committee will share details about the project and discuss the process of applying for a plaque. Bring your computer or a notepad, use Library computers and resources and we can start or continue the research together!

This event is free and open to all! Attend in person, starting in the library’s Levenson Room for an introduction, and moving to Special Collections and Reference for hands-on research.
