Visit the Portsmouth Public Library between November 7 and December 10 for an exhibit of the work of Rosalind Revilock-Frost. These soft sculpture wall-hangings are constructed of fabric, batting and wire. Revilock-Frost uses hand-quilting techniques and a superstructure of wire to create movement, volume and space. Exuding whimsy and joy, these constructions will take over PPL’s lobby and command your attention! Join us on Sunday November 26 from 2 – 4 PM for a talk by the artist, entitled “Art – Practical and Metaphysical,” as well as a reception! Refreshments will be served.
Rosalind Revilock-Frost creates large scale soft sculpture, cloth constructions using fabric and wire. These large works are admired for their use of color and the celebration of life they evoke.
After attending two different universities in the 70’s, she found her artistic home at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and received a BFA through its affiliation with Tufts University. Throughout her career four elements have informed her art practice. She explores the power of color, the relevance of happiness in society, the exhilarating energy and movement inspired by ballet/dance, and the significate influences of social movements, particularly feminism and civil rights.
Highlights in her career include having her work chosen for the 2013 Violence Transformed: Discovering the Transforming Power of Art show at Doric Hall in the Massachusetts State House following the Boston Marathon bombing as part of the healing process for the city. And more recently she was asked to be the keynote speaker at Threads: Fiber Festival at Bedrock Gardens in Lee, New Hampshire where she gave a talk entitled ART: Practical and Metaphysical.
