Ikebana 2019
Ikebana Exhibition & Demonstration
July 11 @ 1 PM – July 13 @ 3 PM
Demo: Saturday July 13, 2 – 3 PM
Fascinated by Japanese flower arranging? Come to a demonstration and exhibition of Ikenobo Ikebana at the Portsmouth Public Library.
At 1 PM on Thursday July 11, an Ikenobo Ikebana exhibition will be unveiled in the library lobby. The exhibition runs through July 13. An Ikenobo Ikebana demonstration will be held in the Levenson Room on Saturday July 13, 2 – 3 PM.
Ikebana is a way to express one’s feelings with each individual flower.
Many different Ikebana styles have appeared during the 550 years of Ikebana history. They each have a distinctive character and are arranged with a particular form or pattern in mind. However, awareness of natural beauty allows the arranger to gradually approach the ideal beauty which Ikebana seeks.
The Kittery Point Ikenobo Chapter is sponsoring this event and welcomes you to its celebration of this centuries-old floral art form. The Kittery Point Chapter is affiliated with the Ikenobo Headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. Four members of the Kittery Point Chapter will demonstrate four different Ikebana styles. The exhibition in the library lobby will be of arrangements made by members of the Kittery Point Ikenobo Chapter.
