Film: Love and Bananas: An Elephant Story, Thursday August 31

July 27, 2023

Love & Bananas
2018.  Not Rated. 77 minutes.

A team of elephant rescuers embark on a mission to rescue a 70-year old captive Asian Elephant.

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Elephant Advocate Robin Dite who volunteered in 2022 at Elephant Nature Park, the sanctuary featured in the film.

The best and most natural environment for elephants to live is in the wild, but unfortunately, this isn't always possible. Many elephants are rescued from circuses, temples, zoos or attractions. Others become orphaned or injured, and it is rarely safe or feasible for them to be returned to the wild. For elephants like those described, they are sometimes cared for in elephant sanctuaries or rescue and rehabilitation centers.

The 77 minute film Love and Bananas follows a team of elephant rescuers in Thailand who embark on the rescue of a 70-year-old elephant. It provides information about the world renowned Elephant Nature Park in Thailand and the work of the park's founder, Lek Chailert. This film is suitable for all audiences, however the presentation is designed for adults and teens.

Following the film, Robin Dite, a local resident who volunteered at Thailand's Elephant Nature Park in November 2022, will share stories about her experience at ENP, describe the plight of the Asian elephant in East Asian countries, answer questions from the audience and lead a short discussion.

Films at the library are open to the public and FREE. All films will feature subtitles where possible.

No registration is required. This is a drop-in event. Space is limited so arrive early to secure your seat. Refreshments will be served.
