ELL - English Language Learners
English Language Learners
An English Language Learner (ELL), also known as a Multilingual Learner (ML), is a student who speaks a language or languages other than English. ELLs receive targeted services to help them develop academic English skills while engaging with content across all subject areas. The mission of the ELL program is to support students in acquiring academic English and to provide the support needed to ensure they can fully access their education. ELL students represent a diverse group, bringing rich cultural and linguistic assets to our school community. Portsmouth proudly supports students from around the world, with over 25 languages represented in our schools.
