Clipper Careers
Student career readiness is a key part of Career & Technical Education. The 8 CTE programs at PHS allow students to explore career pathways that lead to further schooling, training or employment. Clipper Careers resources are available to PHS CTE students as they build professionalism and pursue hands-on, applied learning experiences in their pathways.
Portsmouth High School encourages students to explore a variety of future pathway options post-graduation. This includes students pursuing full-time work opportunities after they complete their high school program. The School Counseling staff works closely with Seniors in conjunction with the Career Readiness Coordinator and in consultation with CTE instructors to identify necessary action steps and support students in developing a plan. This may include the pursuit of further skills training or career paths in the skilled trades or an exit into NH industries such as manufacturing, building trades, technology, health care and hospitality services.
Relationships with industry developed through our CTE offerings aid in our network of employer partnerships. These connections allow students a broader range of possibilities to consider in discovering a right fit for them. Industry partners will actively recruit at our Job and Career fair which is an offering that happens in addition to our Future Planning Fair in the Spring.
Connect with us for more information on becoming an industry partner or to begin the process of exploring internship or future career pathway opportunities.
PHS CTE students can participate in Workbased-Learning (WBL) opportunities within their CTE program pathway to transition them into the world of work and further expose them to industry experiences that align with their coursework. Our PHS CTE pathways have Program Advisory Committees of representatives from industry who inform the curriculum and provide WBL options for students to help them build their skills.
Students can pursue Clipper Careers coursework for credit including: Work Education (credit for pursuing a part-time work experience), Career Internship/Work-based Learning (credit for career exploration training), or pursue Extended Learning (ELO) self-designed projects based on interests– these options are meant to assist them with their individual career development process below.
Clipper Careers resources for exploration, planning, and preparation such as the Clipper Resume template, self-assessment and career aptitude tests, and interviewing tools are available to students. More information about career planning and the forms required for offsite experiential learning for credit can be found on the PHS School Counseling website under Clipper Careers.
Job Fair
In 2023 we held our first annual job fair at the high school where 60 companies were able to present their job opportunities to the over 1000 students at PHS. Contact Nicole Bellabona if you are a company interested in being involved at this year's job fair.
