City Council Approves Holiday Gift of 3 Hours Free Parking in City Garages Dec 11, 2023 through Jan 1, 2024

Putting a new twist on the holiday tradition of encouraging downtown shopping, the City Council voted to approve three hours of free parking in the City’s Foundry and Hanover Garages. The free parking will run from Monday, December 11, 2023 through January 1, 2024 – an extension from last year’s nine days.

Downtown employees who use the City’s discounted parking in the Foundry garage will receive an additional three hours free of charge, if needed.

Parking meters and the timed parking ordinances will be unaffected. This encourages turnover in the use of the spaces to allow a greater number of people to park, shop and visit downtown restaurants and attractions during the holiday week. Fifteen-minute metered time limits will also remain in effect. Downtown parking enforcement hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 8 pm and Sunday, noon to 8 pm. Any declared snow parking bans will also be enforced.

The City hopes residents and visitors will take this opportunity to support Portsmouth’s local small businesses, restaurants, and arts and cultural attractions.
