CITY OF PORTSMOUTH ANNOUNCES ABSENTEE BALLOT INFORMATION AND UPCOMING DEADLINES

Portsmouth, New Hampshire – The City Clerk’s Office announces the following important information for voters.

Absentee Ballots Are Now Available for February 11, 2020 Presidential Primary Elections – The Absentee Ballot Request Form for the Presidential Primary Elections may be obtained at the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, or online here: http://files.cityofportsmouth.com/files/cityclerk/2020presprimabs.pdf

There are four reasons available under the law for individuals to receive an absentee ballot. Commuters should note the information under Absence from City, below.

  • Absence from City: A person is unable to appear at any time during polling hours at polling place because they will be working on election day or will be otherwise absent on election day from the city and will be unable to vote in person.
  • Absence Because of Religious Observance: A person is observing a religious commitment which prevents them from voting in person.
  • Physical Disability: A person is unable to vote in person due to a physical disability.
  • Absence from City due to Employment: A person cannot appear at any time during polling hours because of an employment obligation. The term "employment" shall include the care of children and infirm adults, with or without compensation.

Absentee ballots for the Presidential Primary Election must be received in the Office of the City Clerk no later than February 10th at 6:00 p.m. or via the mail no later on February 11th Election Day no later than 5:00 p.m. For more information, click here

Voter Registration for February 11, 2020 Presidential Primary – The last day to register prior to Election Day is Wednesday, February 5th.  The Office of the City Clerk will accept voter registrations on February 5th until 4:30 p.m.; and the Board of Registrars will accept voter registrations from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall in Room 211. The Registrars will also take address or name changes on February 5th.  Voters may also register to vote on Election Day at the polls. No Party Affiliation changes can be made until after the Presidential Primary on February 11th.
