City Announces Two Opportunities for Taxpayers to Learn About Revaluation

The Assessor’s Office for the City of Portsmouth has announced a Taxpayer Forum scheduled for September 4, 2024, from 5 to 6:30 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall. Topics will include how assessments are handled in New Hampshire, how market value is determined, what taxpayers can do when they have questions or concerns about their assessed values, and what is – and how to be best prepared for – an informal hearing.

The City Council will hold a work session on September 5, 2024, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall to review the results of the 2024 revaluation and a timeline for new assessment notices to be mailed to taxpayers.

About Revaluation:

The State of New Hampshire requires municipalities to conduct revaluations at least once every five years. The 2024 revaluation will review all assessments throughout the City and estimate the current market value as of April 1, 2024.

The major phases of the revaluation will be Market Analysis, Valuation, Field Review, and Informal Hearings.
