City Hosts Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update Public Meeting on September 30, 2024

September 11, 2024

The Planning and Sustainability Department along with their consultants, Kittelson & Associates, Inc. will host the first public meeting on the City Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update Project at the Levenson Room at the Portsmouth Public Library (175 Parrott Avenue) on Monday, September 30 at 6 pm.

The public is encouraged to attend to learn about the project, talk to the project team, and share their experiences walking and biking in Portsmouth.

About the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan Update

In 2014, the City completed the Portsmouth Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan as a comprehensive strategy to make bicycling and walking safe, comfortable, and convenient for people of all ages and abilities. The City has worked to implement the recommendations of the plan and build a better network over the past 10 years, as it endeavors to realize its vision and commitment to increase walking and bicycling. As best practices for accommodating pedestrians and cyclists have evolved over the past decade, the City is conducting a comprehensive update to the Plan, assessing what still needs to be implemented and giving the community opportunities to provide input for future improvements.

The 2024 Plan Update will be a tool for coordinating Citywide projects, policies and programs related to active transportation. The updated plan will be used to evaluate and measure progress in the City’s adoption of bicycle and pedestrian amenities and to help to guide future capital investments and potential funding options.
