City Plans to Open Indoor Pool First Week in November
October 5, 2021
Over a year ago, the City of Portsmouth closed the Indoor Pool in light of precautions against the spread of COVID-19. During that time, the City also took the opportunity of the closure to explore necessary repairs and maintenance. With that work completed, the Recreation Department plans to reopen the Indoor Pool in the first week of November.
During the time the Indoor Pool was closed, the Department of Public Works Facilities staff invested a significant number of hours investigating a leak and other elements of the pool infrastructure. In December of 2020, the City, with the concurrence of the Save the Indoor Portsmouth Pool (SIPP) group, agreed to engage an engineering firm to fully evaluate the pool’s short- and long-term needs so that investments could be most strategically planned and implemented. Over the past nine months, improvements have been made to the pool filters, controls and chlorination system, as well as a repair that eliminated a significant water leak. These upgrades allow for a pool reopening with improved operations.
