City of Portsmouth Issues Annual Drinking Water Quality Reports for Portsmouth, Pease and New Castle

Portsmouth, New Hampshire – The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division is mailing copies of the Annual Water Quality Report this week for customers served by the Portsmouth (including portions of New Castle) and Pease (serving the Pease Tradeport and a portion of Newington) Water Systems.

Throughout 2022, both Water Systems have continued to meet all water quality standards as regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES). The Portsmouth Water Division is constantly monitoring and routinely testing the drinking water according to these requirements to ensure the quality of water delivered to customers consistently meets these water quality standards.

The reports include details on:

• Water quality testing results;
• Capital improvement projects that increase the resiliency and quality of the water system;
• Water supply protection efforts for which the City earned the NHDES 2023 Source Water Protection Award;
• “What’s in your water and what is not” information on testing and remediating possible lead and copper in private plumbing systems;
• Fluoridization (for which the City earned a New Hampshire Safe Lives Certificate); and
• Water quality monitoring efforts.
