December 21, 2023
Once again the Citywide Neighborhood Committee Holiday Lights Contest received enthusiastic support, with 34 Portsmouth residents participating. Mayor Deaglan McEachern announced the winners at the December 18, 2023 City Council meeting.
The top three winners are:
- Best Traditional: Molly Wilson, 1360 South Street;
- Most Creative Kris Kraft, 760 State Street; and
- Kids’ Choice: Matt and Nicole Beyer, 580 F.W. Hartford Drive.
“The Citywide Neighborhood Committee has done a great job of reviving the Holiday Lights Contest so that it’s now an annual tradition and part of what makes Portsmouth a wonderful place for the holidays,” said Mayor McEachern. “Each year, so many families put so much time and effort into the displays, helping to bring holiday spirit to their neighborhoods and holiday light to our beautiful City.”
The entries were judged by members of the Citywide Neighborhood Committee, along with the following children: Cody Bureau, Sonia Jarvis and Sidney Jarvis.
Honorable Mention winners are:
- Jana Goldstein, 170 F.W. Hartford Drive;
- Brent Guillot, 32 Manning Street; and
- Brian McGuire, 21 Madison Street.
“The Holiday Lights Contest has become a signature event for the Citywide Neighborhood Committee in recent years,” said Co-Chair Elaine Apatang. “Like the summertime National Night Out neighborhood event, it is an effort that brings neighborhoods together and helps form lasting friendships. The Committee is delighted to do its part to ensure that Portsmouth continues to be the holiday capital of North America, as we are known!”
The Committee has created a map of the Holiday Lights Contest entries so that residents can tour the lighted locations route by car, using this interactive map with the winners marked with red snowflakes and the honorable mentions in green:
