Assessor’s Office Starts Statistical Revaluation Process, City Council Presentation Scheduled for February 5, 2024

The City Council has scheduled a presentation to discuss Statistical Revaluation with Assessing Director Rosann Lentz on Monday, February 5, 2024 during the City Council Meeting.

New Hampshire State Statutes require that all real property (land, buildings, and other improvements) be revalued at least once every five years. The purpose of a revaluation is to provide an accurate assessment of properties throughout the City and to ensure a fair and equitable distribution between a property’s value and its property taxes. A revaluation does not create new or additional revenues. The City has contracted with Vision Government Solutions (VGS) to conduct the Statistical Revaluation. Employees from VGS will be reviewing properties throughout the City from January through September 2024. Each employee will carry VGS identification, and their photos are posted on the Assessor’s web page. Contractors reviewing properties will have an Assessors' Office sign in the vehicle window, and their vehicle information will be registered with the Portsmouth Police Department as well as the Assessor’s Office at City Hall.
