Energy Advisory & Sustainability Committees Host Community Conversation on Renewables on Wednesday, July 10, 2024

June 28, 2024

Formed in 2022, the City of Portsmouth’s Energy Advisory Committee (PEAC) helps to assess renewable energy options for residents and businesses. PEAC successfully guided the City into an agreement with the Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire (CPCNH) and facilitated the transition from Eversource as the default electricity supplier to Portsmouth Community Power (PCP). Portsmouth customers using PCP now have four electricity options with increasing proportions of renewable energy, from 24.3% to 100%.

As PEAC continues to manage PCP and the City’s membership in CPCNH, the Committee is supporting the City’s Climate Action Plan with outreach and events about additional renewable energy options, efficiencies, and technologies.

On July 10, 2024 PEAC, in partnership with the City of Portsmouth Sustainability Committee, Portsmouth Climate Action, Seacoast Climate Action Now, and the Portsmouth Public Library is presenting Community Conversation on Renewable Energy: Solar Energy for All at 6:30 pm in the Levenson Room of Portsmouth Public Library (175 Parrott Avenue in Portsmouth).

The event includes an update on the City’s Climate Action Plan, the importance of implementing steps for greater energy efficiency, opting-in and opting-up to Portsmouth Community Power, and the benefits and barriers to on-site solar power. Roundtable discussions with City residents sharing their first-hand experience with solar installations, will include:

Choices available to renters, condominium owners, and single-family homeowners;

  • Navigating available solar opportunities;
  • The ins and outs of solar financing options; and
  • Tips for navigating the City approvals process.

The Community Conversation event is free and open to the public. For more information on the Portsmouth Energy Advisory Committee and Portsmouth Community Power, visit: https://portsnh.co/peac.
