City Property Tax Rate Set at $11.18

December 11, 2024

The New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration has approved the City’s property tax rate of $11.18 per $1,000 of valuation for Fiscal Year 2025. The newly approved tax rate will be reflected in the tax bills which will be mailed by mid-December, with the first half due mid-January, 2025 and the second half due June 2, 2025.

The City of Portsmouth provides an online tax calculator at portsnh.co/taxcalc for residents to estimate their tax bill for Fiscal Year 2025. The City urges taxpayers to pay their tax bills online at portsnh.co/paybill, where they will receive instant confirmation and receipt. All payment options are detailed on the back of the tax bill.

While the City’s due date for payment is in January, taxpayers should note that to claim any applicable property tax deductions on their 2024 taxes, payment must be made by December 31, 2024.

About Revaluation:

The State of New Hampshire requires municipalities to conduct revaluations at least once every five years. The last revaluation in Portsmouth was conducted in 2019. The 2024 revaluation reviewed all assessments throughout the City and estimated the current market value as of April 1, 2024. The total value of real property in the City increased from $6.15 billion in 2019 to $10.08 billion in 2024.

Property owners who wish to contest their assessments may request a review of their assessed value by filing an abatement application with the Assessing Department by March 1, 2025. Abatement applications can be found online at portsnh.co/assessors or by contacting the Assessing Department at 603-610-7249.

Correction: A previous version of this release stated that the second property tax bill would be due mid-June 2025.
