Laptop in Police Cruiser at night

The Portsmouth Police Department relies on several critical information systems that form the backbone of its Dispatch and Records Management infrastructure. These systems include workstations, in-house laptops, cruiser laptops, servers, interfaces to State Police networks, and various peripheral technologies such as scanners and printers.

Additionally, the IT Unit is responsible for maintaining and supporting proprietary police-specific software programs essential to operations. The IT Unit also oversees the management and support of a fully operational back-up Dispatch Center, ensuring continuity in emergency services.

The cruiser laptops operate over a secure wireless network, giving officers in the field immediate access to motor vehicle records and criminal history information. This mobile office setup enables officers to stay on patrol while completing police reports, effectively enhancing our community policing efforts.
