Internships
The Portsmouth Police Department generally offers two internships annually. One during the school year and one during the summer months. We are proud of the fact that several of our interns have found their careers with us following their college graduation.
Our interns are exposed to day-to-day municipal law enforcement activities as well as the inner workings of a variety of special teams and functions, including but not limited to the Investigative Division, K-9 Unit, SERT Team Operations (SWAT), Drone Team, etc. Interns will have opportunities to participate in ride-a-longs with our officers on any of our four (4) shifts.
Various internship expectations also include administrative and clerical tasks (copying, filing, organizing, etc.), research and analysis, and any other project assigned to them by their direct supervisor.
