Crime Scene Team

The Portsmouth Police Department Crime Scene Team is a team of trained patrol officers and detectives capable of collecting, preserving and processing any and all types of evidence from various crime scenes. The officer or detective on the team also completes all relative paperwork required and ultimately testifies as to his/her involvement in the investigation.

Crime Scene Team members comprise a cross section of patrol officers, detectives and ranking offices from both divisions. The Crime Scene Team is ultimately under the responsibility of the Investigative Division. Vacancies on the team are filled subject to an oral board process and only officers with a minimum of two years of law enforcement experience are considered. Team members, upon acceptance, complete specialized training in crime scene processing and evidence collection. Continuous in-service training also take place for all active members of the team.
