Two new police officers were sworn in Tuesday during a City Hall ceremony when they received their badges, standing ovations and advice from Police Chief David Mara.
“This is a big day for the Portsmouth Police Department,” said Mara, while announcing the new officers bring the department ranks to 63 uniformed officers.
The police chief said the two new hires passed a “long process” of physical and written tests, polygraph exams, interviews and medical examinations. He said he personally had long conversations with both and was impressed with what they will bring to the department.
